FILME REVIEW: Little Shop of Horrors (1986)

Lately, because of the release of the new Burton’s film, Sweeney Todd, Broadway musical’s based films are fashionable again. And amongst these kind of films, which are being shown on our TV channels twenty-four hours a day, we would like to underline Little Shop of Horrors, which is being broadcasted tonight in ILB Channel.

Directed by Frank Oz, better known for being the voice behind Star War’s master Yoda, this film is a celebration of two motion picture genres: the musical and the science fiction B movies. Based on the most famous play by Roger Corman, the film mix together a singing plant, a sadistic dentist and a sweet true love between two skid-row inhabitants in a film worth seeing.

Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of a dumb florist named Seymour Krelborn (Rick Moranis) who happened to find a mysterious plant. He is in love with his co-worker, Audrey (Ellen Greene), in honor of whom he called the plant Audrey II. The plant was a success, and quickly became the talk of the city, causing a spectacular increase in the shop sales. But our hero’s luck changes when he discovers that the plant responds only to a kind of food: fresh blood.

This is a film that can be viewed repeatedly without never getting tired. With several amusing musical numbers, an original villain and a cute romance, you can’t help but watch it tonight.
